What It Means

Why 30527 Happens

The business registration number, authority or country in your toll free verification is missing, invalid or does not match the business.

It is required for every business type except sole proprietors.

Missing fields, a legal name that does not exactly match IRS records such as the CP 575 or 147C letter, a DBA used as the legal name, or an EIN that is not 9 digits or was issued very recently.

New EINs can take up to about two weeks to pass IRS matching, so wait before resubmitting.

The Rule

What Does Error 30527 Mean?

Error 30527 is a toll-free verification rejection, not a 10DLC campaign rejection. It means the Business Registration Number fields in your toll-free verification request are missing, invalid, or could not be matched against the business details you submitted. Every business type except sole proprietor must provide them, and they must agree with the legal business record.

In Twilio’s toll-free verification, the registration data is three fields: the Business Registration Number, the Business Registration Authority and the Business Registration Country. For a US company that means the EIN, issued by the IRS, in the United States.

Root Causes

Why Does a Business Registration Number Get Rejected?

A registration number is rejected when it is missing, when it is not a valid number for the chosen authority, or when the legal business name submitted does not match the name on file for that number. A brand-new EIN can also fail simply because it is not verifiable yet.

CauseWhat to checkFix
Fields missingNumber, authority and country were left blank on a non-sole-proprietor request.Fill in all three for your legal entity.
Name does not matchThe legal name differs from the IRS CP 575 or 147C letter, even by punctuation or a suffix.Enter the legal name exactly as printed on the IRS letter.
Invalid numberA US EIN must be a valid 9-digit number; a non-US number must come from a local or national business authority.Correct the number and the matching authority.
DBA used as the legal nameA trade name was entered as the primary business name.Use the legal name, and put the trade name in the doing-business-as field.
EIN too newThe EIN was issued recently. The IRS says a new EIN can take up to two weeks to pass its TIN Matching Program, so wait, then resubmit.

Step by Step

How Do You Fix Error 30527 and Resubmit?

To fix error 30527, correct the registration number, authority, country and legal name so they match your official registration exactly, then resubmit the toll-free verification while it is still eligible for edits. Twilio sets the edit window for a rejected toll-free request to seven days from the initial request.

  1. Pull your IRS letter (CP 575 or 147C) and copy the legal name and EIN exactly.
  2. Check the business type. Sole proprietors do not provide registration numbers; every other type does.
  3. Fix the trade name. Legal name in the name field, trade name in the doing-business-as field.
  4. Resubmit within the edit window. Twilio’s guidance for an eligible rejection includes editing the request and correcting or removing the registration fields as instructed, then resubmitting.
  5. If the window has passed, submit a new verification request with the corrected details.

Remember that toll-free verification is separate from 10DLC registration; see toll-free verification and toll-free rejections. Until approval, texts from the number are blocked with error 30032.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Twilio requires the business registration fields for every business type except sole proprietor. A sole proprietor request should not be rejected for a missing registration number, though other details still have to be accurate.

Most often the legal name does not exactly match the IRS letter, or the EIN is very new. The IRS says a newly assigned EIN can take up to two weeks to pass TIN matching, so a correct number may fail for a short time after issue.

No. 30527 is a toll-free verification rejection. Toll-free verification runs separately from A2P 10DLC registration with The Campaign Registry, so fixing it does not involve your 10DLC brand or campaign.

Twilio sets the edit window for a rejected toll-free verification to seven days from the initial request. If you miss it, correct the details and submit a new verification request for the number.
